"RUSAK" ATV with 8x8 wheel formula, designed specifically to operate in the harsh conditions of the North, is being designed in "Transport" scientific and educational center of R.E. Alexeyev Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University. The machine will be able to overcome the deep snow and marshy swamps, to travel in areas of the rivers flood, and thus will be the most economical and friendly to nature.
An abundance of choice in the automotive market, which was slightly corrected for the average Russian consumer by the rise of the dollar late last year, alas, was never felt in the Arctic. Approximately 2 million people reside in the Russian part of the most severe from all regions in the world inhabited by people (the Arctic area of ours is 4.4 million km2). In addition, about 25% of settlements with 20 million inhabitants in the Northern and North-Eastern regions of Russia have no regular transport to the neighboring villages, and 40 000 settlements have no roads with asphalt. People living in such conditions, need special cars to have access to hospitals, schools, administrative services, and indeed to be able to communicate with each other, especially in emergency situations, not rare on the northern edge of the Earth. But the most popular models, enticing buyer in showcases of metropolitan dealers, of course, do not fit them. As a rule, tracked vehicles or upgraded versions of powerful SUVs are used in the northern extreme.
Scientists of R.E. Alexeyev Nizhny Novgorod Technical University set a goal to solve the traffic problems of northerners through their development an amphibious "RUSAK" all-terrain with 8x8 vehicles, which has high traffic and good environmental performance. It easily overcome swamps, meter of fresh snow barriers, water barriers in the lowland rivers with no more than 5 kilometers per hour flow. It will have two gas tanks, providing cruising range about 650 km on land and 150 km in the water.
Draft project of Russian miracle of technology is almost ready. All main components are developed for it. The units will be produced in the iron in the end of this year and then assembled into a unitary structure. Now scientists are working on the design of the car, and promise to collect the first experimental model by the middle of 2016.
"We have studied certain technical solutions in earlier projects, for example chassis, suspension, steering control, - Alexander Blokhin, Ph.D., the Deputy Director of SEC "Transport ", says. - The peculiarity of this all-terrain vehicle is that it will be completely controlled under extreme conditions. All its 8 wheels of 1.3 meter diameter can turn, and depending on the speed of motiomn the turn can be for both of the first two axes, and for all the four. Thus, the first two and the third and the fourth axes may turn in opposite directions. This is done in order to reduce the angle of rotation and thus increase the maneuverability and stability of the vehicle while driving with relatively high speed - 50-60 km per hour, and also at the exit from the deep ruts formed after heavy trucks, tractors or any other special transport. The speed limit is due to the fact that the it is supposed to use the tires of low pressure, which are more suited to the northern nature, because they allow to overcome the deep snow and move through the swamp better, and do not create a lot of pressure on the ground - the habitat of rare species of animals and plants. However, on the other hand, these tires can lose stability at high speeds.
However, in those conditions, which will be used ATVs - in the marshes, the snow on the roads, - talk about high speed does not have to. There's even a ride at a speed of 20-25 km / h seems otherworldly".
It is assumed that the rover will have a number of advantages over both adapted to the north SUVs, and with tracked vehicles.
"The quality of all-terrain vehicles, which are based on production cars, is not very high, because initially borrowed components and assemblies are not designed for harsh northern conditions, under which peak loads on components and major temperature fluctuations (up to 30-40 ° C during a day) may appear. As a result, this leads to the fact that the quality of the product has a low reliability, a lot of breakdowns and failures happen - Alexander Blokhin explains. - Caterpillar vehicles used today in the north have a higher throughput and load capacity than the wheel ones, but it has much less speed, plus it causes great damage to the ecosystem, and too expensive to operate. We have tried to consider all these points in our development. Technical characteristics, the environment and the economy. Carrying capacity of our machines will be about 2 tones.
As far as costs are concerned I can give you an example: if the tracked vehicles fuel consumption is about 100 liters per 100 km and more on solid support surfaces and soils, our all-terrain vehicle has 22-25 liters for the same distance.
Fuel consumption of wheeled and tracked vehicles can increase by 2 or more times during driving on snow. Given that runs between the points can be quite large, sometimes more than 600 km, it can be said that fuel consumption in the northern regions is one of important performance indicators. The result: our car does not need to install additional fuel tanks on it, you can take more cargo instead of them. We focus on the optimal combination of the ATV all-terrain performance, productivity and efficiency in the movement on the supporting surfaces with low bearing capacity (snow, sand, marsh), not inferior to tracked vehicles of the same class, and ecology, achieved by using a Euro-4 diesel engine and mover with high environmental qualities necessary for a northern country".
Approximate price of rover, estimated by developers, will be 3.5-4 million rubles, depending on the configuration. The main consumers of all kinds of the machine will be all kinds of services and farms of the northern and north-eastern regions of the country - Ministry of Emergency Situations, district and village administrations, gas companies, energy companies as well as ordinary people, such as hunters and anglers. Car production will be implemented by industrial partner of the institution - LLC "Plant mechanical transmission" of the "COM" group.
