Access for graduates to higher education has not decreased, and in the natural sciences, engineering and health fields universities have got a larger number of budget places 205 000 in the admission campaign of the year 2015. There is a growing interest in students to pedagogy and aviation, and absence of it in agriculture. These are the preliminary results of monitoring of quality of admission to the budget places at the higher educational institutions in the current year, presented by Dmitry Livanov, the Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, and Rector of "Higher School of Economics" NRU on the 3rd of September.
Dmitry Livanov, RF Minister of Education and Science, noted that among the trends of admission campaign 2015 there is an increased interest of students towards engineering and teacher education. Competition for these areas exceeded 7 people for a place in the current year. The proportion of strong applicants who want to master these specialties significantly increased. The highest rate by this criterion was demonstrated by universities of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tomsk, Novosibirsk.
"A few years ago "thereafter working at school" motivation was extremely low, and a big deal of graduates of pedagogical institutes looked for a work not in education, but now we see that the situation is changing. The attractiveness of this trend increases, Dmitry Livanov noted. Aviation high schools very gladdened this year. They began to enroll the honor pupils for the first time. The example is Ulyanovsk Higher Aviation School".
In addition, the national average competition in high schools increased for the faculties of foreign languages, international relations and medicine.
Average EGE point of the freshmen amounted to 65.2 this year, what is 0.8 higher than in the last year. In Moscow and St. Petersburg this figure, as previously, is higher than in the rest country 74.2.
The highest quality of enrollment was showed by St. Petersburg Academic University, headed by Zhores Alferov, Nobel laureate in Physics, (GPA of entered applicants 95.5), MGIMO (94.7), MIPT (93.8), Higher School of Economics (91.5) .
The weakest quality of enrollment campaign 2015 was showed by universities related to training for agriculture, as well as the universities of the Ministry of Transport of Russia and the Ministry of Sports of Russia. There are 19 high schools in so-called "red zone" in total. Average EGE point of students enrolled in them sometimes do not reach even 50.
The winners and awardees of Olympiads (there are 7500 of them in Russia this year) with preference for enrollment in higher education institutions predictably used them, enrolling in universities, which traditionally have the highest competitions.
A feature of the present enrollment campaign was the fact that all universities have started to take into account the individual achievements of graduates gold medals, school portfolios, diplomas of regional Olympiads and competitions. The results of the examination compositions, introduced in school curricula as an experiment in 2014, have been taken into account only by 40 percent of universities, and now, according to Dmitry Livanov, the effectiveness of this innovation is going to be evaluated.
Also this year the statistics calculated universities in which there were a greatest number of applicants enrolled with very high EGE points. The absolute leader here was the St. Petersburg State University (the strongest graduates were enrolled for 26 areas of training), then School of Economics and Moscow State University (19 and 15 areas respectively), followed by Bauman university, MGIMO, Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics, Russian State University of Oil and Gas.
Along with this almost 90 universities held an enrollment in that way that more than half applicants enrolled for 5 or more directions had only satisfactory marks at school. By the way, there are not only regional educational institutions among them, but also the metropolitan ones, in particular, Moscow State Industrial University, Moscow State University of Design and Technology, Moscow State Forest University.
However, a common approach to outsiders for example, reorganization, withdrawal of the license or catastrophic reduce of budget places scaring for so many universities will not be applied. According to the rector Yaroslav Kuzminova towers, each case should be considered separately.
"There are high schools that situated in the Far East and the North Caucasus. They are ready to work well, but the strongest graduates from these regions often tends to go into the central part of Russia, and they have to work with those who stay. However, there is a second group of universities, which showed extremely poor results of the enrollment from big cities. The solution for them may be that they will gather their forces and ask for fewer budget places to get out of the "red zone". Otherwise they likely might not receive budget funding at all in the next year", Yaroslav Kuzmin commented.
Despite this, according to Dmitry Livanov,
higher education accessibility to pupils will be maintained at the same level as in the last four years, when it was about 56 percent.
